Before Your Build, Do Your Homework
Are you planning to build a new steel building? You are not alone. A great number of businesses are deciding to go with steel. The erection of a new building isn’t necessarily done with conventional methods, such as brick or wood, but is accomplished with steel. You should not enter into a steel building project without checking out all the facts. In order to best satisfy all the requirements of your company, learn everything you need to know about the prospective building suppliers.
Analyze the history of the steel building supplier’s track record in doing business with other companies. If they were fair with others in the past, then chances are good that you will receive the same type of treatment. Take time to research a building manufacturer with the Better Business Bureau (B.B.B.). Professional companies tend to be a part of such a reputable business community. Any manufacturer not willing to supply you with a detailed invoice of your order is either trying to hide something from you or is just careless in their business practice (and, therefore, likely to be careless with the product they deliver to you). Avoid such a supplier. The best companies to do business with are those well known to the public. When a particular company is well known, then that business tends to treat customers well. Do not cheat yourself by failing to do a simple background check on a company with whom you might hand-over hundreds of thousands – if not millions - of dollars to. Make sure you know something, or even a lot, about the prospective supplier before you engage in business with them.
With the purchase of your new building, you should be given a set of detailed, yet easy-to-understand assembly instructions. Give yourself peace of mind by selecting a building supplier that offers warranties for framing, roofing, or other parts of the building system. Don’t just take their word for it–get it in writing. Is the gauge of the building specified precisely? Make sure that it is listed. Professional companies pay great attention to such detail. Avoid companies that cut-corners on such necessary information. In order to enhance your building’s overall look and help lengthen its usable life, a beautiful deluxe trim package should also be included. Is the roof an UL 90 roof? Will the lifetime roof fasteners be included with the building? This is all important information worth verifying. Therefore, keep all your needs in mind. You should not be unsatisfied with such a costly purchase.
In addition to all the structural elements, see to it that all framed openings engineered into the building are pre-punched, pre-welded, and pre-drilled at the factory prior to shipment. You will be pleased not only with the final results, but you’ll find the entire building process goes much easier. What is it about your building that is important to you? How about downspouts, gutters, and roof height? Any professional supplier will be able to accommodate your preferences. If you overlook even the smallest detail, it will be noticeable to you. If you give careful attention to such features, then you will be pleased with the results.
When your prefab steel building is sent to the worksite to be constructed, first see that everything you asked for has been shipped. Make certain you examine everything that has been delivered to ensure that everything is there. Still, people make mistakes. A piece may be left out that you need in the initial stages of construction. Don’t merely assume that everything you asked for will be there in the shipment.
Before you do business with just any manufacturer, take the time needed to fully investigate all the good points and bad aspects of each company. The process can be simple. Know exactly who you are doing business with and know exactly what you are receiving. While Murphy’s Law may often ring true, if you have a plan in place then you can handle anything!
